A historic sea-side pub and restaurant in St Margaret’s Bay, near Dover, The Coastguard invites you to dive into superb food and drink while enjoying an epic view over the waves.
Britain’s nearest pub to France, the Coastguard has kept watch on the sea-front for more than 300 years – and after its refurbishment means you can take in those spectacular bay views in style.
The pub’s look is inspired by maritime heritage, with a red and white lighthouse-style fascia and boat-shaped planters and lifebuoys dotted around the beautiful front verandah – where an outside bar and barbecue set the scene for summer. In winter, the pub offers a haven for those enjoying a bracing walk along Dover’s famed White Cliffs. Inside, the nautical theme continues, with a warm and welcome offered to all who come aboard.

we stayed as a family of 4, 2 young children for one night before our ferry the next morning. We didn't make use of the pub as we arrived on a Sunday after closing. However, we called up and they were more than happy to let us park up and gave us a bit of advice for the area.View all reviews by Midlifecrisis4
No facilities but that didn't bother us.
we arrived as it got dark so only saw a brief bit of the lovely surroundings. Felt very safe. Nice and quiet aside from the rain!
It is tight getting there in a big vehicle but we managed at just under 7 metres. Would definitely use it again for our next stop over.
Arrived on 3rd attempt due to the sat nav telling us to turn around. steep narrow road down to the Coast Guard pub and a very warm welcome and a nice pint of beer. Carpark is flat level and small pebbles with absolutely fantastic view of France. There is also a pay and display carpark which does not clearly define that motorhomes are not allowed. it just states "No camping???????". For tonight though we will be eating in the Coastguard and parking for free. There are public toilets in the carpark and a small cafe.View all reviews by dudleyroxy
