the view and the facilities are fabulous, sadly the locals are now using the road up and down as a racetrack! throughout the evening cars were zooming up and down, then in the early hours it started again. there's quite a bit of road noise and dogs barking, oh and then there's the buses that come and go constantly. the lady in the CCEP bar was a bit rude after I asked if she spoke English, I speak French sadly I'm not multilingual. had a great meal in the town in the restaurant "o national". would I stay here again? probably not, sorry

Jury out on this one.Crammed in(actually 28 EHU )& anything 7m+ will need chocks to clear the high kerbs on parking. The grey water grids sits right under the door so having a dog is a no go as they risk breaking a leg . Im already having a sleepless night wondering how we can get out ..That said , it does state under 7m so i’ll remind my other half of that.Advice, park in the lower free bit. Town is ok. not the calmness of a sleepy place, more neglected but busy when boats arrive and geared for that. The best bit was the fabulous bridges from Porto to here via the main roads. Wonderful engineering and a pleasuev( toll roads but under €10 and took us 1 hour )
Would i visit again.No

Excellent stopping off place. We took train in both directions, one day to Pinhao the other to Porto. Definitely use again although the town is nothing special the surroundings make up for it.
Service area very good. Flat and plenty of spaces to choose from as lots of coming and going.

Not much to add to the previous comments but it is a good site right next to the river if you have a van over 7 1/2 m long you will not be able to park in the designated €3 spots but you can park in the free spots along the riverside on hardstanding and if its dry in the field next door. Can be busy on the weekends with lots of vans.
There is noise from the bridge but it’s not a problem at night and if you wear ear plugs youve got it cracked.
On one of the mornings i was there ( 0645hrs) the local numpties came down to do donuts with their bikes and cars and you will see evidence of this all over the road, why the local police don’t do something about it heaven knows.

Enjoyed our stay parked by the river as all other pitches were taken. Agree with others a little difficult to find but as you come to the roundabout take the 3rd exit that goes down if your in the town youve gone too far

We really enjoyed staying on this site
Great views very peaceful, lovely walks, river cruise, train to nearby Pinhao and the bike ride on N222 to Pinhao.
Delicious local resturants in the village and a market to.

Drove northwards from Viseu Arrived 9pm- wow what an amazing scenic mountainous drive, memorable. Spent a couple of nights on the €3 ehu & serviced top row over looking river, bottom rows were packed full, nice riverside walk/ cycle, huge cruise ships moored up, took the riverside train upto Pinhao & back to see stunning vine terracing (runs 5x perday each direction) town a bit grim & uninteresting (personal view), although lovely newly developed curved timber port tasting bars close by on main road, fabulous little pastry shop just accross road from top of ‘pedestrian’ bridge
The infamous pack of wild dogs do come past the mh’s late at night, but no noise or problems from them.

We stayed at the top in the bays with electricity. It’s €3/night, you pay in the bar, although a woman later in the evening came & knocked on doors to check you had paid, so keep your receipt. As it was very hotwhen we stayed we sat out in the shade under the trees on the grass in front of the bays. There are plenty of places to eat in the town. The area was full, and we found out why the next morning, as it was the Douro marathon the next day, so the parking area was chaos with locals cars, but it provided a good spectacle.

This aire is no good for larger motorhomes as you just cant get into the bay because of the pavement edging, you can park for free down by the river. Not much to do in the town, but the scenery i think is wonderful, it is a stop over for the river boat cruises. It is a mountainess region so we had a few squeeky bum moments getting down to it, im not sure if it was worth the effort to be honest.
We could see donought marks on the road down by the river where the motorhomes park, and some piles of bottles etc so wasnt sure about staying, early evening several youths in cars arrived and sped up and down the road, the police circled round a few times but we ended up having a good nights sleep.

The official aire is at the top of the slope. Pay €3 at the nearby bar for access to a bay and electric lookup. However the bays are very close together & in hot weather it means no air circulates between vans & it becomes stifling. It you don't need electricity park in the parking further along or down by the river. Don't park on the wasteland under the bridge as packs of dogs wander this area. River trips available at quay - a short walk through a nice park by the river. Service point free.

Good value for money stop over. We struggled to find it at first, it is just under the bridge. Pay for ehu at bar at swimming pool. Caught train to pinhao €5.70 return.

Agree with everything previously said. No change at April 2018. You can take a one and half hour train journey up the river for around €8 each return if you are over 65. Passport needed. 200 metres to train station

Fantastic aire once we found access road. The GPS told us it was on our right when we were on the main road in the town, it took several goes to see all the MHs we were hot and tired, the town was busy. The signage misled us. All free spaces by river were occupied, now realise why, it is baking up in the bays so park below and put awning out and move up in the evening if you want a serviced pitch for only E3

Stayed here after visiting Casa Mateus near Vila Real, choice of pitches down by river with no electric, or further up hill towards car park with electric. Very clean facilities, but the toilet in the park was closed and a portaloo in situ during our visit . Town has a number of restaurants and bars for snacks or meals, the one with the keys to the hook ups was friendly and cheap for drinks, but closes early in the evening. Some noise from car park late evening as young people meet up there.

On the Douro river and close to Porto, but 134km to drive which took 4 and a half hours! Lovely riverside aire, with huge bridges overhead, excellent, clean and affordable, with a toilet at the park, slightly downstream. Well organised, clean and accessible from the roundabout (follow the sign, not the satnav) 41°9'20.78"N 7°46'52.86"W
Baying dogs at night! Chance to cruise up river or down to Porto.

Nice place to stay with a great view of the river and the vinyards of Sanderman and others. Pay at the footy bar just under the bridge as soon as you arrive. The town is large with lots of shops and bars and river trips close to the Motorhome parking area. Further parking area being built as we are here.
