€8 overnight, free entry to the abbey. Peaceful night. Abbey bells ring just before 5am and just before 6am. The abbey is a stunning place to visit well worth staying here.

This site is incredible and you can see the monastery that will be your host from miles around, as you approach Cassino. It is about 80 miles south of Rome and about 60 miles north of Naples, so an ideal stopping off point. The climb to the monastery is an easy one, with a good road although with some hairpin bends, so need to watch out for visiting coaches. When you reach the top, there is an area that is dedicated for motorohomes next to the coach park, although we asked the ticket man if we could move up to the upper car park over night which felt much nicer and the views in the morning as the sun rises, was spectacular, especially with the autumn cloud and mist. Your €8 ticket covers you overnight and you can get away with leaving around 9.30 - we didn't want to push it any later and find we had to pay another €8. The price includes entry into the monastery, which is a must. It is simply stunning and the chapel will take your breath away. The overnight was very peaceful and safe, although the monks are called to pray at 5.00am, then again at 6.00am, which is a bit of a rude awakening, although when you share this space with the monastery, it's just part of the experience. I would highly recommend. There are no facilities except for toilets that are open during the day and rubbish bins. Fabulous place to call home.
