Good spot. Parked here in my VW camper. Was the only one parked overnight. I was woken up at 1am by a car playing loud music who decided to stop for a bit but most other cars just used the area as a turning space. Really nice views in the morning and enjoyed a walk to Hollins Cross and Mam Tor from here.

Quiet location with stunning views down the Hope Valley and of Mam Tor. No facilities and fairly level if you get in the right place. Very peaceful night there. Not suitable if you want pubs etc. Good for walks.

Quiet parking spot, plenty of space for a number of vans on the road out of castleton. We walked into the village for a meal, its about a mile down hill and had a quiet night with the exception of a couple of cars coming up only to turn around and then drive back down the hill. A great place for walking, mountain biking or visiting the village or the caverns.

We've stopped here three or four times now.
There were a few campervans/motorhomes up by the turning circle. Disappointed to see that one was having a barbecue/bonfire! It's a public road for crying out loud!!
Parked little way down the hill on a largely level spot.

Peaceful night.

I wasn't sure about this spot, but later in the evening 2 more vans joined us on our overnight stay. Down the road parking is exclusive for caverns' visitors, so basically it's only this rough sort of lay-by.

Overnighted here. Much smaller space available than expected. Arrived at about 1630hrs. Fortunately a car parked by the barrier was just leaving so managed to tuck ourselves in with a minimum of chocking required for a nice level pitch. I wouldn’t have been keen if we had had to park on the road up to the turning spot. In the early hours a helluva wind set the van rocking! Good spot though, if you can get that barrier space. I imagine weekends and summertime would be very crowded.

Stayed here for two night, at the top. Moved down the hill in the evening to go into castleton for a meal, then back to the top. Spectacular views, treated this mprning to the sheep escaping from the field all with their little lambs. Then a convoy returning them a little later. Can be a bit noisy later on,even though it's a dead end, lots of cars came up,turned round and went. Might stay halfway up next time at night, save the turning round bit. Very quiet in night, felt safe, not really anyone else while we stayed.only scored low on facilities, there are some bins

Can't beat the views, great stopover although a little breezy with the wind blowing through the valley. Plenty of space for parking during the daytime too if you enjoy walking. Like others have said a few cars turning during the evening but not a problem, very quiet otherwise. Would definitely stop again

Free to park except on weekends and bank holidays. Good flat surface, looking out onto Mam Tor, we parked just after the turning where Winnats Pass is (on the old road - turning area at the end so you can look for the best spot), bit of traffic but quiet later on, less than 10 minutes walk into Castleton. Great overnight spot

Nice and quiet. One other van behind us so feel pretty secure. 20 minute walk in to town centre. Very near to the caverns and some nice walks.

Lovely little quiet spot, handy for easy access to man tor and walking across the tops. Couple of other vans when we were there, everyone kept themselves to themselves but felt safe and secure.

Three or four other vans were there when we arrived just as it was getting dark and also a car and caravan.
Handy location for Castleton although we parked down by the junction in the morning (doesn't appear to be pay & display any more despite what the signs say) for a shorter walk into the village.
One or two cars sped past during the night but nothing to worry about.
Facilities: 5 as there are none but the surface is good and fairly level.

Great site can get busy in the day with coaches turning etc but at night nice and peaceful as long as you park horizontal to the 'crash barriers ' you won't impede the coaches that need to turn great access to the man tor walk and only a mile to Castleton
