Friendly welcoming staff in pub with real fires.View all reviews by jackiebell16
Good views from car park (which isn't level but we just parked head's up).
Food was delicious washed down with some lovely ale.
Near Kirkham Abbey.
Would definitely recommend.
Lovely free pub stopover, staff welcoming and helpful. Great food and dog friendly. Need levelling blocks but plenty of space in the carpark. Lovely walk to Kirkham Priory and along the river. Definately would stay again.View all reviews by newellr
Great venue, friendly and welcoming staff, lovely food & beer,View all reviews by adrianbarton
Parking okay, but on a bit of a slope, be prepared for a bit of levelling,
We are sure the views are beautiful but we picked a night when the weather was awful and couldn’t see the end of the bonnet never mind the view. However the friendly welcome and excellent food more than made up for this. Just be aware that the car park slopes from top to bottom but we managed to get a fairly level spot. Well worth a stop over.View all reviews by 123Hermann123
Stayed here at the end of January for one night, called ahead to check it was ok. Nice walk by the river across from the abbey) for the dogs but have to walk down the road to get to it. Carpark is sloping but managed to find a level-ish spot which was ok for one night. Spent the evening in the pub which was busy, lovely food and cosy atmosphere with open fires. Would stay again as a stopover on the way to the coast.View all reviews by Shed78
We stayed last night. Rang ahead to make sure it was ok to arrive at lunch time, park up and go for a walk which we did. Spent the evening in the pub which is lovely with open fires and a very warm welcome from all of the staff and the locals. We had a meal (pie of the day) which was really good. As mentioned in previous reviews the car park is sloping but we can put up with that for the odd night. All in all a lovely spot which we will be visiting again.View all reviews by Laverenckos
Great food, friendly staff and despite the rain and wind we had a great night. Woke up to a great view. We had lunch and dinner in the pub as the food was so good. The dog was made most welcome in the bar with two real fires burning away.View all reviews by 160steve
Managed to park in the flattest bit of the very steep car park and were almost level.
Really convenient for visiting Castle Howard or even york.
Good beer, good food, open fire. Only thing that wasn’t perfect is sloping car park but we will definitely be back.View all reviews by ben9090
Just off the A64 but in the village of Kirkham not Whitwell on the Hill - so check your directions.View all reviews by ajp1
Good food and a selection of local ales in a cosy, welcoming, friendly country inn - the only downside is a sloping carpark - even with ramps we couldn't get anywhere near level !!
Good if you are looking for a quick stopover between York and Malton if you don't mind not being level
