it's got so many reviews I wasn't going to bother but we stopped here overnight halfway from Scotland to home for a night and of course had food in the pub. first impressions wasn't good... it just looks mediocre... but the food is delicious... Lovely sea bass... just cooked right fresh veg... and a pudding to die for. definitely recommend.
oh and has water, grey dump and toilet dump facilities... I can see why it's so popular.

Note that the motorhome stopover has a Brit-stops sign but it wasn't mentioned when I called. Good food in busy pub, best to reserve a table. I found that when I parked furthest away from the motorway, ie reversed in with the bed at the back, there was a lot less noise than when I parked back nearest the river/motorway. Toilets are available when the pub is open. Very convenient for M6 travel.

Excellent place, just off M6. Dog friendly pub with lovely food which is good value. Staff very friendly and welcoming. Looked like a nice walk along river, but couldn’t get my dog over or under the style so could not get there! The only downside is the motorway noise.

A great stop on your journey to or from Scotland. This is a well presented old coaching Inn, offering excellent food (or just bar meals if you want). Very pleasant staff.

There is a large level hardstanding area to the rear, marked out for about 20 vans. No facilities apart from a dump station. There is a constant drone from the close by M6, so light sleepers might need earplugs, and the main railway line is fairly close. After a while you tend not to notice the noise as it become background.

Highly recommended!

Lovely stopover. Good value food in the pub. Quiet despite being close to major roads. Flat level carpark with 'Britstops' signage. Don't think any expectation to eat. Not the most picturesque but perfect for what we wanted.

Stopped for 1 night here. Good stopping point on way to or from Scotland. It’s worth a phone call to check space as by esrly evening it got quite full.
The food in restsurant was also excellent and would recommend booking a table if 2 or more of you as that was also busy with moho owners and locals.

Great pitstop on the way home from Scotland. 8 motorhomes on the large level tarmac car park when we visited. Still plenty of room and the landlord said that he often has 15 or so at a time. Toilets available during opening hours. We arrived 4pm, pub opened at 5pm until about 10pm. Otherwise no services. Good, reasonably priced pub food, and real ale. Friendly staff. Will definitely be back.

Stayed here two years ago on our way to Isle of Lewis from Somerset. With us were my wifes parents who were staying in the pubs B&B we had booked for the return trip but sadly mum in law passed away during the trip. Decided we would stay here again this time. The parking for MH is great the service and food fantatsic and very good value for money. To cap the lot the landlady remembered us from last time. Cant fault the place.

Stopped off for night returning from Scotland. 3 vans including us. Motorway noise not a problem but did find the railway noisy all thro the night! Very friendly staff and excellent pub food. Pub shuts at 20.45 so park up early. We arrived at 3.30 and pub opens at 5. We aren't in Britstops but nobody asked.....probs glad of the trade in January!

Great stop over if travelling to Scotland from the South. We did have issues with the sat-nav finding it. As you come off at junction 45 turn left then left again, this road runs parallel to the motorway. Well laid out level parking, overlooking the river. Food was good, welcome friendly. some motorway noise but we didnt find it intrusive.

We stayed two nights and were given a very warm welcome, they remembered us from last year. The food is lovely pub grub, light menu less than £7.00 for two couses. Yes there is a little noise from the motorway but not intrusive. Very convenient if you want to visit Carlisle or Gretna

The landlord will allow you to use the shower and toilets and is in the process of increasing the motorhome parking spaces, the word has spread what a little gem this place is as a stopover on the way or back from Scotland.

Grass area for walking the dog and the pub allows dogs in the bar area

Drove from chester to this location as looked goid on the way past when going down to england.
Arrived and found 2 more MH onsite . The road from motorway was quite a distance coming from south side.but found the pub and car park no problem.
Went for meal n few drinks
The meals were fulling and very reasonably priced. Got speaking with another local couple and couple who had motorhome in carpark aswell . Had a good night in bar resturant and the dog was welcomed by all.
Welldone to the staff and all involved at the resturant pub.
Only thing we found with site park was to much noise with train going past every 1/2 hr to an hr plus the road traffic noise from the motorway
Worth a stop

Excellent stopover to or from Scotland. Very friendly staff, had the 2 course menu (£6.95), which was excellent, sitting in the conservatory overlooking the river. Some road and rail noise if you are a light sleeper, but didn't bother us. its also a Britstop and the area is marked to rear of the pub. There were 10 MH the night we stayed and I think they like you to eat or at least have a drink. We will definitely return.

Food hot ant tasty and very good price. There is the M6 motorway to one side and England/Scotland main rail lines the other but to be honest we mever heard a thing once asleep. Stayed over travelling north on the way to Scotland. Great flat pitch to the rear of the car park area, reached via a long country road route that was somewhat pleasant. Near to a busy road, but unless you are hyper sensitive to noise this is not a problem - wasn't for us. Food good and reasonably priced, great views across the river if you are lucky to get a window seat/table. We will definitely stay over again.

Arrived after searching for a spot between Gretna and Carlisle. Easy to get to and nice gravelled area to park. Sharing with another MH. Noise from M74 and Railway not too bad. We ate at the pub and the fayre was hot, quick and served with a smile. I told them we were staying and after a beautiful evening we retired. Excellent food, beer, service and parking. All for the price of a meal and a few drinks. Doesn't get better than that, some other hostelries should take note.

Another great Britstop site, perfectly situated for those of us who do the long run from Cairnryan frequently and need somewhere to break the journey! Spacious dedicated corner of the car park marked out specifically for Britstop customers with nice views of the river. Cosy pub with good grub (had a lovely roast). The distant whoosh of the motorway wasn’t a bother at all.

Tons of space to park motorhome. Lovely pub with great reasonably priced food. Very friendly staff.

Bit noisy as close to M6 and railway.

Sad to see 4 other motorhomes that used this place to overnight and didn't have the decency to even go in and buy a drink. Shameful and embarrassing for others that did. Tight arses!

Another stop off point on my meandering trip to Strathclyde multisport centre for the triathlon championships next weekend. Very easy to find, just as well as my satnav told me I had reached my destination whilst still on the motorway! I could see the pub as I went by, it is that close to the motorway.
The pub is probably a couple of hundred years old and built of sandstone.
I has a large parking spot dedicated to motorhomes overlooking the River Esk. Spendid view as long as your eyes don't stray to the motorway and the constant flow of heavy lorries. Whilst it was a bit noisy during the day, it is 9pm now and whilst I am writing this most of the heavy lorries have gone to sleep and the noise is not excessive. There is a mainline railway on the other side of the pub and again I think the trains have also gone to bed.
I had supper in the conservatory watching the sun go down. Good pub grub and plenty of it at a reasonable price. Might have to call in again on my way back next week. I would award more marks except for the motorway. Why do they build nice pubs next to motorways!!! Derived from a story about an American group who, on visiting Windsor Castle were heard to say, "Nice castle, why did they build it next to the airport!".

Excellent stopover enroute to Scotland only minutes away from M6 where the pitch is free to all who use the pub. The fare is very reasonably priced and the service friendly, and good quality for the money. Although nestled between the M6 and the west coast line to the north, it was never noisy enough to worry us or keep us awake as both are far enough away to be distant background noise. We will certainly visit again as the locals made us feel welcome too.

Used this as a stopover on our trip down to Folkstone in January. What a friendly crowd and lovely owner. We weren't going to have a meal but enjoyed sitting in the warmth of the pub so much ended up eating there. My husband had the curried rabbit - he loved it. Definitely high on our list of places to use again. Plenty of room to park and good facilities and all free.

Large car park exclusive for motorhomes. The food is excellent and really good value. Even though close to the motorway, it is quiet. An excellent stopover to & from Scotland.
