Dog friendly pub in a superb position opposite Bodiam Castle. On arriving we walked on the public footpath through the castle grounds after they closed to the public. The castle, moat and gardens were idyllic in the early evening sunlight. A table in the bar was reserved for us when we booked ahead, for a lovely meal and bottle of wine. All reasonably priced and a relaxed atmosphere in the bar: the large pub garden overlooks the River Rother. Peaceful overnight with plenty of places to walk the dogs. The pub opens for breakfast at 9am on Saturday and Sunday.View all reviews by sussexblogger
Great location opposite the National Trust entrance.View all reviews by CombarroN
Recommend emailing in advance as they only have limited space for motoehomes.
Really friendly staff
Great food - fish and chips were amazing!
Fab little stop off....
Has to be one of the best pub stops in the area, plenty to do all within walking distance.View all reviews by admin
As reported phone signal was non existent but we did manage to get some wifi in the pub or by using the wifi booster there are a couple of BT Fon hotspots locally. Food was fair and a sunday roast was welcome after 6 weeks touring Holland spent £46 on two full roasts bottle of wine and a couple of halves of lager. No view from carpark but lovely local scenery
Really nice place and peaceful location. Terrific food and the staff were so friendly and helpful. We had a gas cylinder run out which was when i realised I’d left my adjustable spanner at another job. I asked at the bar if they had one I could borrow and they searched and rang around. When I went back to the bar to collect our drinks there was a pint of Doom Bar next to a spanner! Gas swapped over and an evening in front of a log fire. Happy days. Only down side is its a poor phone signal area. Recommended.View all reviews by Shortap50
What a nice place! Great country pub with excellent food and friendly staff. Dog friendly bar as well. Make sure you phone ahead to check they can accommodate your motorhome. The car park can probably only take 2 or 3 small to medium sized motorhomes. Definitely on our list for a return visit.View all reviews by billoreilly
Very pleasant location. Friendly staff and willing to switch around menu items to suit personal tastes. Food really tasty and well cooked/presented. A number of locals eating and drinking during our visit. Sadly unable to sample the weekend breakfast but expect it would be good. Marked for future visit if n district.View all reviews by troggy

Free Pub Stopover. Quiet & you feel safe. In the heart of the English country side. With Bodium Castle & stream railway within 1/4 off a mile. A Definate must for those seeking a perfect stop. Our favorite so far. Ticks all the boxes. Level gravel. Accommodating pub. No rush off. Dog friendly pub garden. Many bitters n lagers on tap. Extensive Menu. Right next door to a cricket field/ park- direct access from pub car park. Dog exercise heaven.10/10View all reviews by vivagibbo
Great location directly over the road from Bodiam Castle. We stopped for lunch which was good. We were not stopping overnight but they were happy for us to leave the Motorhome while we went to visit Bodiam Castle. The roads in the area are quite narrow but were manageable in our 7.2m m/hView all reviews by jant
Stayed here Wednesday night. Rang in advance as was meeting up with another Moho but no problem at all. As it happened there were three vans stopping over that night. Food fantastic and staff very friendly. Parked at rear of car park, bottom corner is the most level, we were on a bit of a slant but not too bad. Pub is across the road from Bodiam, we wanted to visit the castle so asked if we could leave our vans in the car park the following day. It was no trouble and they were more than happy for us to do so. Great for dog owners as other reviewers have said, plenty of places to walk and explore. No facilities as far as EHU and water or disposal but not an issue for a one night pub stopover.View all reviews by karenj
Wendy and James have been running the Castle for fourteen years now. James is head chef and Wendy front of house. Really cheery couple and we lucked out as the local school choir and local brass band came in for Christmas carols.View all reviews by flyingbluedog
Excellent food and good range of beers.
Car park flat and if you park right at the back on the left you can get a view across the games field towards the river.
Bodiam castle is litterally just across the road and steam railway coupla hundred yards away. Also riverside walks. VERY busy in summer I understand.
Excellent food and a very warm welcome. Rang ahead and arrived early, parked up tucked into corner of carpark. No facilities. No view from van but stunning from 50 yds!View all reviews by phaeton
