Good food, good beer, great view. What’s not to like?!
Toilets were apparently shut overnight after the pub shut, but were open by 0700. £5 for the EHU.

Booked ahead, which is a must as there are only 2 spaces.
Had fabulous views over the fell tops and fields.
Only £5 for EHU and food/drinks at the Swinside - which is a lovely Bar/restaurant ( even better to book a table at the same time )
Excellent value for money and rear view.
Chocks are advised.

Stayed here as location is great for Catbells, rang ahead and booked a table. Staff are pleasant, food was fantastic and a great atmosphere. We had a very quiet night and slept well, not sure if that was the Ale or the walking! Highly recommend if you are a walker.

Stayed one night here.
Staff very welcoming.
Great view and walking area.
Food in pub good.
Toilets open early in the morning until pub closes.
Parking pitch on quite an incline so chocks will be needed if you like being level.

Brilliant place, very helpful people, nice food in the evening and breakfast if you do not want to cook.
I looked on Google Earth to make sure I new how to get there not just relying on sat nav as it can be very awkward on very narrow roads if you get it wrong. Back for a sixth visit in March.

Lovely place. Google maps brought us right here which is a lot too say compared to tomtom which took us around Derwent Water!! Some lovely views but not really a good idea in a wagon...

Post code is CA12 5UE! Did not use co-ords stated. We turned up at correct place eventually and were very pleased with our choice. Lovely views, great food and outside area was wonderful in the sun. Three gravelled pitches marked out for motorhome were a little close together but as we were only ones there,it was of no concern.Pub toilets were clean and could be accessed early on the morning. Access from Keswick not too bad apart from the last fifty yards when oncoming car reluctantly reversed for us. Did not book but was advised by staff member that they normally asked for telephone booking. No pressure to eat but expecteed to use pub for drink at least. Would recommend highly.

Stayed here for one night. Food was excellent and the staff are very accommodating. The roads to the inn are very narrow in places - best to approach from the Portinscale direction. Views are lovely.

Great stopover if slightly tricky to approach .Quiet night ,lovely views , great food .We approached through Portinscale first but noted a 6.6 ft width restriction so turned round and went to Braithwaite but the route seemed very tricky from there , or van is 6 m so not massive .Returned back to Portinscale and even though inn website said dint follow sat nav I thought it would get us somewhere near , ended up above Derwentwater on single track road , not easy . Just to help if you head out of Portunscale past the marina and follow the road you eventually come to a signpost for Swinside off to the right , that's the road you need and the pub is a few hundred yards past the turn on the right, the postcode will take you to the left ....ask me how I know -:)We didn't come accross any width restriction which must be further along the road. There are no facilities apart from pub toilets so score looks worse than it is

First few sunny days of the year prompted a quick getaway so rang the Swinside on the off chance they may have a table for Valentine's evening and was pleased to hear they had. After stopping at Keswick for a bit of shop browsing, we headed to the Swinside and this is the first thing to note, access can be difficult and I would not recommend approaching via Braithwaite (as we did) but use the route the local buses use which is from Portinscale - this was the route we exited by and was much easier.
The entrance to the car park is quite tight but manageable. There are a couple of spaces suitable for larger vans (we are 7.5m) but will depend on how other visitors have parked, you may need to time your arrival to get a decent space. We were fortunate to park with lovely views towards the snow capped peaks of Barrow and Causey Pike and parking is gravel and level with no need for blocks. The pub itself is the epitome of a traditional pub with low beamed ceilings and a roaring log fire and dogs are welcome in the bar and when eating although we left ours in the van. Food was excellent and the portions are huge. Prices are very reasonable (we paid £47 for two mains and a single dessert, bottle of wine and a couple of lagers) Toilets were open early so helped extend our wild camping capabilities.

We rang the site asking if we could park and received a more than friendly response. Whilst we had to rely on our own onboard facilities, the pub's toilets were available during opening hours. The Swinside Inn is dog friendly and offers a good selection of drinks and food and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. By way of a warning, do not be led by your GPS to approach the Inn through the village of Stair! If you make this mistake you will find your route laden with difficulty including single lane roads with few passing places and a narrow bridge following a sharp bend.
