We found this site very relaxing. It's in the grounds of a chateau about 7km from Bayeux. Small groups of pitches are spread out around a central courtyard. This contains the reception, shop, bar/restaurant and a toilet block. There are two other toilet blocks around the grounds.View all reviews by shago
Reception is at the end of a drive up a stunning avenue facing the chateau. First impressions were great! The reception staff were very friendly and spoke excellent English. We hadn't booked in advance but the site wasn't full. It costs EUR32 per night for motorhome, 2 adults & electric. We had no problems with reverse polarity on our pitch. Lots of information brochures available at reception, both free and guide books to buy. The shop is open 9am-7pm (same as reception) and sells fresh bread & pastries each morning. There is no need to order the night before but I would recommend being up early to be sure!
The bar/restaurant is open every night and there is a menu in reception. Food can be eaten in or taken away. We didn't use the restaurant but the prices seemed reasonable for a captive market.
The main toilet block looks new. It is unisex but filled with cubicles. There are no urinals nor continental toilets. Cubicles contain WCs or washbasins or showers - these are push-button operated with plenty of hot water. The block is wheelchair accessible as are the facilities within.
The grounds are beautifully kept. There is an outdoor heated swimming pool and splash pool for small children, a fishing lake, hard tennis courts, nets on grass, a football area and a few children's play area with swings, climbing frames etc.
We stayed here for two nights after a week of pub stopovers and aires. It was bliss!
And the free unlimited wifi was an added bonus :-)
First site we visited in France booked using camping cheques which worked out much cheaper than booking direct with the site. Chateau de Martragny is a 4 star site and part of the Castels group set in the grounds of a medium sized chateau.View all reviews by challenger
Located a couple of kms outside of Bayeaux which is well worth a visit and not just for the tapestry. Good vets in town just off the ring road. Site got a little muddy when we stayed due to the tremondous thunderstorms we experienced but luckily these were only at night. Pool was open we stayed but was quite cold. Quite expensive for what it is but good value using Camping cheque or ACSI out of season.
