Peaceful and picturesque area, lots of pull ins to park up and there’s a flat gravel carpark further on 3miles by the castle but we found a pull in just before the castle with a rope swing and fantastic views of the Loch. Be aware of sharp drop on entering the first entrance of the castle carpark! I pranged something underneath, 2nd entrance better, flat once in. No facilities by castle but we didn’t need any. Called at the cafe in the morning.

An absolutely beautiful spot. Parked up near the castle. 2 other vans. People wild camp along the road. Very quiet and peaceful. Had no phone coverage/internet. Would definitely return. A little bit of nature. There is a cafe nearer the start of the road down to the loch. Most seem to stop here and go no further.

Update to Mar 2018 post on road surface condition: Single track road in from A713 is now resurfaced with tarmac. Many options for nightstop and several units braved what was to be a wild and windy night! We visited Dumfries House which is half an hour away near Cumnock on the A70 at Ochiltree. Entrance to grounds is free and if you wish to tour the house it will cost £10pp. Best to book ahead as tours fill up quickly.

We also carried on another 2 miles from coordinates to the castle. Stayed no issues. Nice views and walks.

Some nice spots to park up for the night around the loch. It was quite windy when we stayed, so a bit of road dust. Beautiful views

The road heading towards Loch Doon is a little bumpy to begin with, but does get better fairly quickly with plenty of passing places along the way. We chose to head all the way down to the castle, and it was definitely worth the effort. Car park is fairly level. And you are rewarded with amazing views.

Lovely place to stay. Found a parking area next to the road with a good view of the loch just before the castle. No issues at all.

First time at Loch Doon was in December week before Christmas. Lovely and quiet at this time so was able to park up easily as was spoiled for choice. Campfires allowed, no toilet facilities unless cafe open. Peacefull with great views and during summer months can view Ospreys and thier nests through cameras at nesting sites.
