a large almost level gravel car park at the rear. there is a tap on the right as you drive in.
people were booking ahead to stay but you will prob be okay out of season to just tip up.
we ate in the bar (there is a small table menu but a larger menu if you ask for it). the thai was nice.
5min from M6 or 2min from A66. 30min stroll into penrith where there are some fabulous local produce, bars, restaurants and chip shops.

A great little stopover. Most congenial owners and the most fabulous authentic Thai meal cooked by Anna. Cannot recommend highly enough. Set up for next leg on M6!

Stayed overnight at the Crown Hotel in rear car park. Free to park if having drinks/food. Owner very friendly and accommodating. Had a Thai meal, delicious, they have an extensive menu as well as English food. Hotel is looking tired, just needs some tlc. Some road noise from M6 but didn't stop us getting a decent sleep.

Stayed there 28/7/20. Didn't try thai menu but other diners said it was superb. I ate off pub menu which was good value and offered a good selection. No facilities as such but there is an outside tap. No noise during night. Very handy location only 5 minutes from M6. Difficult to park in Penrith but there is a sainsburys and B&M store 5 minutes away. Details of several local walks are listed on English Heritage site.

Landlord and lady are very nice. They expect you to order food if you stay here. The landlady is from Thailand originally and the food looks amazing. Sadly I wasn't hungry but drunk like a
fish and had a breakfast to make up for it. It may look a bit rundown outside but very clean inside. If your in a campervan they will leave the toilet open for you. There is a water tap outside.

After reading the great reviews, we decided to stop here en route to Dover. We didnt stay overnight, but stopped for amazing food! Fish and chips and orawn pad thai- delicious! There’s a separate dedicated Thai menu too. We enquired about having some water before heading off, and were kindly offered use of the outside tap! Think we’ll stop here on the way home to Scotland too! Lovely friendly owners!

Pleasant stop over. Parking at the rear of the hotel, quiet on a weekday evening. Friendly owners. Highly recommend the Thai menu. Popular with locals. Lovely evening chatting to fellow MH travellers. Would visit again when travelling to or from Scotland.

Brilliant stopover! Owner Mike and his wife are very friendly, as are the locals. We arrived on a Sunday afternoon to a practically empty car park. However, within an hour it was mobbed, so get here early. We had a few drinks in the very dog friendly pub and left with carvery left overs for the dogs dinner! ????

We went back for dinner and had the best Thai food we've had in ages, would thoroughly recommend!

Dog friendly bar and had an excellent Thai meal here which was reasonably priced. Mike and his Thai partner work so hard. I would love to strap my fitbit to her wrist!! Busy and very traditional place so dont let the fact it looks a bot tired inside off. Decent sized car park and able to park in corner away from road. Reasonably flat.

Stopped on our way to the Lake District. As stated before, very friendly owners and amazing Thai food. We parked up, walked to Brougham Hall (about 15 minutes away), where there's a variety of lovely craft shops, then had a pint in the pub accross the road from the hotel before settling down for one of the best Thai meals we've ever had (they also have English menu). Bar is dog friendly and there is a pool table. Great stop over, can't recommend highly enough.

Using as an overnight stop, easy to find & close to M6. Check arrival time as this hotel holds various dance & socials & the car park can be rammed. We managed to block it completely despite arriving as instructed. An hour later there was only us. The owners very friendly, food excellent & beer good. Worth a stopover.

Heading north in my campervan. This hotel is very close to the crossroads of the M6 and the A66 but far enough away to not see much traffic. There is the continual drone from the M6 but it was not too intrusive and didn't keep me awake and I am a light sleeper.
The hotel was apparently built in 1770 as a coaching house and the coach entrance is now the main door. The interior is well kept with wooden paneled walls and a huge wooden fireplace. It is clear this came from another house as the wood was entirely different. Oak on the walls I guess and the fire place probably mahogany.
The car parking, whilst off the road, is a little dismal as there are no views only stone walls.
The landlord Mike and his wife Anna are amiable and provided lots of information on the surrounding area. Brougham Hall and castle are worth a visit.
I chose plain English food but there is a Thai menu. It was reasonably priced and plenty of it.

Easy to get to from the M6/A66 so ideal for stop-over, not too far out of Penrith, lots of history around that area. You stay on the pub car park which is enclosed and there's not too much noise, very friendly owners and locals, Thai food was excellent and very reasonably priced, would stay here again

Stayed here on return journey from Scotland. Mike and all the staff very friendly made us feel very welcome. Tried Thai Food for first time - absolutely delicious. Spent the whole evening in bar with locals and fellow travelers without a drop of alcohol. Very reasonable prices. Not far from town. Surrounding area full of history. Will certainly return when passing again.
