Good stopover - great location and a stunning walk around the castle. Level surface and no signs to say no overnight sleeping.

Maiden Castle is just outside Poundbury near Dorchester. The site is level with a chalky surface and surrounded by open countryside. It’s a very quiet site for an overnight stop. Commercial vehicles park here as well as motor homes and in the morning many motorists park here to take their dogs for a walk. There are no facilities and it is free to park.

Parked up and had a lovely walk around the castle. Decided not to stay the night as a few cars kept returning and doing handbrake turns in the car park. Decided to move onto Kimmeridge-much better.

Large carpark area with loads of turning space. Very slight slope, bearly noticeable. A few nocturnal car visits, despite it being up a long access road. Busy with dog walkers in the evening and early morning. Good spot! :)

Very quiet spot, but cars do appear in the middle of the night which is a little disconcerting.

Cheeky little wildcamp arriving late on a misty Friday evening and was the only one on site. Retail park just as you come off the A35 with fuel, supermarket and Halfords so you will find pretty much all you need before arriving. Had lots of friendly doggy visits the following morning and enjoyed a fab walk around the top before resuming my trip.

We spent one night here in September 2016. We felt quite safe and whilst there was some coming and going even quite late this was not intrusive. The best thing was that we could walk up on the ramparts of England's best known iron age hill fort and watch the sunset. A truly beautiful location.

Lovely rural location. Very peaceful during the night. Level ground over the majority of the area. A super place to wake up and go for a nice long walk around the hill fort.
