DONT GO UP THE ARTHOG ROUTE. They're not kidding!! just made it up a tight pinch then spoke to someone at the gate and they said our 6.5m mh would not negotiate the bends further on. Had to drive into a camping area at that fork to turn around. Too tight for comfort!! Can't rate it as couldn't get there.

Lovely spot but a couple of (what looked like new) signs saying No Overnight Parking, No Camping so we moved on to another spot after walking the peak next to the lake (a 30 min walk for amazing views)

“WARNING” Not advisible to access this parking area from ARTHOG (A493) in anything bigger than VW Camper as the climb is very steep on very narrow road and has some ridiculously sharp hill bends and nowhere for vehicles to pass, only just made it in our 6m Boxer but had to GUN it in 1st gear round the sharp bends. Really scarey would’nt do it again, came down the other side DOLGELLAU much better road with passing optoins.
Also states quite clearly NO OVERNIGHT PARKING, so we did’nt.
Nice size flat carpark that has a toilet block.

Great spot they are doing up toilet block at the moment so no facilities however should be ready in few weeks? Do not do what we did and come up single track road come on back road from Dolgellau.
Lovely in the sunshine Pretty flat car park and very quiet. Donation box near front of car park

Roads leading to car park are narrow but easy enough even in 7M motorhome coming from Dolgellau. Couple of tight gates but as long as you don't meet another vehicle in some parts should be fine. We didn't attempt the Arthog route as advised in other reviews not to.

Great spot. Just to confirm i used the road to Arthog to leave in my 6m ducatto pvc and its fine, although you would be advised to avoid driving it in the dark. The road from Dolgelleu is single track much longer with virtually no passing places. Its not really suitable for motorhomes even from Dolgelleu!!

What a gem of a place. We visited Cregennan Lakes in April, and after a steep drive up, the scenery was amazing. There is no charge for parking here and there is no problem stopping overnight. The NT have a charity box for donations if you wish to donate. I can honestly say there is no place quite like Cregennan Lakes, we found the scenery totally breathtaking, and the sunsets were amazing. It did help that we were lucky enough to have good weather for the two days we stayed. 1 public loo.

Absolutely beautiful spot. As advised in other review we came up the road from dollgelau and all was fine. U have to go through 2 gates to get there, don't be put off. A toilet and a few picnic benches are a bonus. We had a peaceful night alone here and only one car turned up in the morning to admire the view also. Highly recommend. We r in a lwb transit..depends on how confident you are at narrow roads in anything bigger!

This is a stunning location. There are 2 ways to get up DO NOT GO UP FROM THE ARTHOG ROAD this is very steep and narrow and only suitable for small vans, you can get up from Dolgellau but must return the same way.

Not an easy drive but great when you get there with some walking options. We took a walk out to Cadair Idris, round the lakes and up the nearby steep looking hill. All lovely walks. The only bad point about this stop is the drive to it, coming from Dollgelau is the only real option and even then we had to reverse about half a mile down narrow windy roads as there are very few passing places.
National trust signage says no ovenighting but not very obvious.

Warning! We tried to access this area in our 6m camper van on the unamed single track road from A493. Unfortunately we only made it half way before realising we couldn't continue due to the steep roads and sharp turns on the single track road. We had to reverse back which wasn't easy!
In our opinion, this route is only suitable for nothing larger than an average sized car.
As we didn't manage to reach the top, please ignore our rating.

Probably our favourite wildcamp spot. Peaceful evenings, gorge views, ideal for a hike or stroll, toilets facility very basic and cleanliness depends on previous visitors. Sheep roam free so keep dogs tethered at all times. Fishing allowed, permit obtained from local farm. Picnic tables and fantastic views, all you need is a bbq & wine.

The road up from the Barmouth side is unsuitable for anything larger than a camper van. As the land around this car park is private land sheep do roam free, so unsuitable for dogs, and the farmers do have a right to shoot them if seen "worrying sheep" . So please be aware of these facts of when visiting .
