Situated between the National Parks of the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales, this friendly 4 star inn makes a superb base for exploring into these two popular holiday areas, or the lesser known North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The scenery all around the Fat Lamb is quite simply fantastic, and very varied. The differing characters of the Dales on one side and the Howgills on the other make this an excellent base for countryside lovers and walkers (both serious hikers and those just out for a gentle ramble).
Please phone ahead if wishing to stopover.

An overdue review as pub owners allowed us to stay one night on travelling back to London on day of lockdown.

Pub was obviously closed. But wonderful views from dedicated MH parking.

Thank you very much, we will be back to spend money in your pub when restictions lift!

Lovely old coaching inn with 4 hardstanding to the side. £10 a night which is deducted from food only. Good vodafone 4g signal and wifi is available but is slow. Kirkby Stephen is lovely market town a couple of miles away which has petrol and large co-op on the road out to Brough.

well what a find. phoned ahead to make sure I had a space and booked a table for dinner. the views are phenomenal. the pub have converted a small side field into 4 hard standing pitches over looking the hills and the countryside no facilities as if such in the field but use of the pub toilet when open. food really good, although a little pricey, staff really welcoming and I had the place to myself. will definitely be returning

Middle age couple with 2 dogs on 1st stop of 1st tour!

Rang ahead and booked one of 4 flat pitches in their purpose made tourers area detatched from the main car park. Lovely scenery and very quiet (we were the only overnight visitors). Lovely meal in the pub which was sort of ‘50s American Diner meets English Country Pub decor wise but the food was tradition English fayre. The dogs joined us for an after dinner drink in the bar. Definitely recommend as a stopover.

Stayed here last night. Rang ahead to confirm they had a space and booked us onto one of the four dedicated motorhome gravel hardstandings (all of which are reasonably level).
Food in the pub was very good and reasonably priced. The pub is quirky and has lots of memorabelia from the 40’s to 60’s. The owners were very welcoming and were happy for us to use the facilities in morning.
Fantastic views from all of the pitches.
Entrance to the pitches from the main road were alright and not too tight.

We have stayed here several times and the welcome is always warm and the food excellent. They have now added four purpose built hard standings which are situated in the area just to the left of the main car park so you no longer have to park under the trees. The views are much better too. These are not especially large and turning is tight so longer units might struggle particularly if the other pitches are occupied.

Stayed here in July. The pub and surroundings are lacking a little maintenance, but any short fall is made up with the excellent food. Fabulous area with great walking. We will be back.

Very Pleasant evening here. Hosts friendly and accomodating. They can only take 2 vans so we phoned ahead. Food good and Real Ale. Countryside around here is beautiful.

Lovely peaceful spot, beautiful spot and very welcoming. Car park can get busy weekends. I guess you could park on road and move in at closing time. Toilets available if pub open
