This is an ideal stopover for the lone campers group who like a drink Very quiet and secure, friendly banter with the locals John and his wife ,the landlords are brilliant this is now one of my favourite places it reminded me of an Australian outback pub. You can get water.

A friendly welcome, we rang ahead but probably not essential. Large flat concrete carpark. Handy location just off A34 at Newbury. Stayed 1 night with our 2 teenage kids. Had a couple of drinks. Not doing food at the minute. There were a handful of locals drinking early evening but most had gone by 9.30. Very quiet, secure location. locked gate and security patrol car.

After calling up to check all was well prior, We arrived here at about 8pm after a long drive. Buttoned up, had something to eat and then went to bed. Super quiet, the only noise we had was the Golf Driving range behind us had their lawns cut at about 8am but can't complain really. We stopped here prior to our visit to Highclere Castle (Downton Abbey) which is only 7m away. On a side note, There's some speed bumps on the approach and some low hanging trees so beware

A nice quiet rural setting, landlord very welcoming informed us no food available (a common theme) but advised us of many local takeaways that deliver. We used Alibaba Indian and two excellent hot curries promptly delivered. Would use again.

Convenient stop over enroute to south of uk, if passing near Oxford or Newbury. Quiet at evening and night, adjacent to a small golf range. Bar in a converted barn with outside terrace, unpretentious. Kitchen was closed, owners welcoming , helpful and friendly. Bit of a bumpy road to the place, gates locked at night and security, tho weren’t aware of anyone coming by in the night. Nice walks around, signposted and rural enough to let dogs off the lead. Will use again.

Stayed here in Jan 2018. Drive up the lane then right into the pubs car park. Nice traditional pub inside looks like a barn outside. Secure site with a barrier that is locked overnight. Friendly landlord. Pub Grub and Beer ok. Had a nice quiet sleep. Hand for a cycle to town but we used it as an overnight stop enroute to Bournemouth. Would use it again. Free to use, but we bought food and drink.

We were looking for an overnight spot after a nightmare journey on the M25 from Dover. The pub is approached over a rough track. We arrived 15 minutes after the Sunday roasts were finished according to the blackboard outside but the Landlord explained that we would not have had a meal anyway as there was a problem with the kitchen. he had seen us arrive via the closed circuit TV and welcomed us to stay. A Chinese takeaway nearby served us well, washed down with a drop of real ale from the bar.

Converted barn is now a pub which seems to be popular with regular customers. Publican very welcoming and showed us where we could fill fresh water tank and empty toilet cassette.

Basic pub with large level hard standing car park with good easy access. Was welcomed and shown place to park. No facilities beyond the pub itself. Golf driving range and public footpath network on the doorstep. Some distant road noise but far enough away. Pleasant basic stopover.

Quiet Club style pub, well off the road so no road noise. Friendly staff, limited meal options. Only drawback is distance from any shops or other facilities.

Looking for a one night stopover around Newbury we came across "The taste of England" Rang beforehand to check if we could park overnight in car park. The landlord was very obliging and said yes we were more than welcome. We have just spent the evening in the pub enjoying a couple of beverages and listening to music sung by an Elvis impersonator. Very pleasant evening. We highly recommend "The taste of England" as being a friendly pub.
