This is a cracking little spot that we have just used for the first time and it's in an ideal location with less than 5 minutes walk to the town where there are lots of shops, food places and muddy boots & muddy paws friendly pubs. This is a great location with lots of quality walking and some stunning views to take in, the field and car park got a little muddy but it is January after all. This location provides fresh water (if not frozen) and an Elsan point. I am looking forward yo using this site again.

After being temporarily closed for a while, I am glad to report this great facility is now back up and running albeit in a slightly different location. Entrance is still via the car park road but the site entrance is now at the far end of the car park. Entrance is locked with a combination lock and you will need to ring to get the combination so don't just turn up without calling in advance. There is a hose for fresh water at the shed at the entrance to the car park but if you have to stop for water you will block the entrance to the car park. There is also an elsan point near the shed. Not so many spaces as before but it does look like the adjoining field may be used in dry weather. Location is great, easy walking distance into Ambleside. Cost is still £10 left in honesty box on shed.

One of the few dedicated motorhome parking areas with service facilities in England.
Even though during the winter months, the number of pitches is reduced as the grassed area is closed off, when we visited during half term week, there were still a few places left. I would imagine the place is packed during the summer months.
The facilities are basic but functional. Although there is a chem disposal point (no running water but a bucket and pouring jug is provided to assist with the flushing!) there does not appear to be a suitable grey water disposal point.
No electric but that is probably for the better to prevent long term visitors. Generators are allowed although there use is prohibited before 10am and after 8pm this did not stop one numpty using a 2kW generator early am. Apart from that and the early morning low pass flyby of two Eurofighters the site is really quiet and felt safe being fenced and gated.
There is a sports field adjacent and a lovely park behind the site plus direct access to the fells. There is a nice 2 hour walk to Loughrigg Fell which can be accessed from the back of the park and over the two bridges, then up the steep tarmac path.
Ambleside is only a few mins walk away and is a mecca for all things outdoor with loads of shops catering for the outdoor enthusiast and plenty of restuarants and cafes.
If arriving from the North, I would recommend that you do not use the A592 (especially in the dark!) as this takes you over Kirkstone Pass with 20% inclines and very narrow lanes.
